Learn techniques for sketching butterflies at Tommy Thompson Park with naturalist and art instructor Alan Li. Gain insight into the natural world by drawing butterfly specimens up-close and benefit from Alan’s one-on-one tips. Beginners welcome.
The workshop will take place indoors in natural light with outdoor breaks to seek butterflies fluttering in nearby greenery.
What to Bring:
• Approximately 9×12 inch artist quality sketchbook
• Artist quality HB graphite pencil (eg. Staedtler Lumograph, Faber-Castell 9000)
• Gray kneadable eraser
• Fine tipped black ink pens (eg. Sakura Micron 01 or 05 widths, or Faber-Castell PITT in “S” width)
• A basic set of coloured pencils (optional, but recommended)
Alan Li is a visual artist focused on nature. He supports conservation efforts through the sale of his artwork and is active in volunteering. Alan currently pursues his own projects, teaches nature drawing workshops and collaborates with grassroots environmental groups.

This workshop will run rain or shine, except in severe weather. The workshop site is an approximately 10-minute walk into the park from the gate. Free parking is available at the entrance. Spaces are limited as this workshop is designed for a small group with opportunities for one-on-one support.
Cancellations made more than 2 weeks before the workshop date will be refunded the full amount minus a 10% cancellation fee. Cancellations made less than 2 weeks before the workshop are non-refundable.
